Do you often find spoken Spanish difficult to understand?
Do you sometimes feel like giving up when what you hear seems so different from what is written down?
Help is now at hand, with Jane Cronin’s audio course “Step by Step Spanish Listening”.
“Step by Step Spanish Listening” enables you to listen to the spoken word, at your own pace and in your own surroundings, so that your ear can tune into the sounds and rhythms of the language.
The course consists of 24 episodes which tell the story of a young Spanish woman, Ariadne, the challenges of her everyday life and her aspirations for the future. It starts at an elementary level of Spanish and moves on to an intermediate level.
There are two recordings of each episode, one at normal speed and the other at a slower speed. Along with the two audio files, you will receive an answer sheet which gives you the first word of each sentence, the total number of words in each sentence along with the spelling and meaning of any particularly difficult word or phrase.
There is no time limit and you can listen to both recordings as many times as you like. Your task is to type out exactly what you hear, in Spanish, and return it by e-mail. You will then receive your text with any errors highlighted, the correct text and the next episode to repeat the activity.
As you work through the 24 episodes your ear will tune more and more into spoken Spanish. You will become more aware of the connection between the spoken and written language and way words and sounds link together. You will also become more familiar with the overall rhythm of the language. Also, when you listen again to earlier episodes, you will be amazed at how much you can understand and how much your listening skills have improved.
